Glutathione and Its Importance for Your Body

People are interested to know more about ingredients that have a good effect on their health. From lemons to green veggies and low-sugar food, the list is endless. You are sure to sit up and listen when you hear about a relatively unknown antioxidant written about today. Yes! It is Glutathione, which is a natural component generated by your liver. You will be excited to know that it is found in almost every cell within your body.

It is formed in your body by the active participation of three distinct amino acids. It is unique in the sense that it is generated by the liver, whereas other antioxidants do not share the same origin. Do not ignore its importance, however. You may not be able to know that you lack the exact amount unless you go through an array of diagnostic tests.

Its importance stems from the myriad benefits your body obtains due to the presence of this antioxidant. Research studies have revealed that Glutathione is capable of the following: –

Reduces Damage to Body Cells– It is a potent antioxidant that has the power to counter harmful free radicals and eliminate them from your body. Your well-being is assured as glutathione is found in strong concentrations all over your body.

Improved Insulin Sensitivity– You are advised to be extremely cautious about your diet and lifestyle when you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which increases insulin resistance. Patients who have developed complications due to insulin resistance have fewer amounts of glutathione in their bodies.

Parkinson’s Disease with reduced symptoms– A few research studies have proved that maintaining the usual level of glutathione in your body will help you combat the progression of Parkinson’s Disease. Glutathione, when injected into the body, has proved effective, but the same cannot be said of oral supplements

Less Damage in Ulcerative Colitis– This is an inflammatory condition associated with stress and oxidative damage. Supplementation with glutathione has shown some improvement when tested on rats. Studies on humans are yet to be conclusive.

Low Cell damage in Liver Disease– The liver cells are damaged to a great extent when the patient consumes excessive alcohol or is diagnosed with fatty liver. Hepatitis has shown some improvement after being supplemented with glutathione. Doctors are hopeful of lessening liver cell damage for patients diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The antioxidant has the power to eliminate toxins from the affected cells.

Reducing Cancer Progression– There has been long-standing research on the effect of Glutathione on cancerous cells. While some research studies indicate reducing the progression of cancer with the spread f malignant cells reduced considerably, other studies reveal that cancerous tumours become less sensitive to traditional chemotherapy and may worsen the condition. It is not possible to arrive at any concrete conclusion about the effect of this antioxidant on cancer cells specifically.  Sure, glutathione is a powerful antioxidant with far-reaching effects when used as a supplement. Sadly, most of the research studies have been inconclusive with more research required to make a positive impact. Consult a doctor instead of consuming glutathione on your own.
